LIGHTING
THE MEMORIAL TORCH OF LIBERTY The Memorial Torch of Liberty was dedicated
September 10, 2005 by Pennsylvania Senator Jane Clare Orie and shines in the
Shanksville sky every night from dusk until dawn. Depending on atmospheric
conditions, the light can be seen from as far away as twenty miles in all
directions, and especially from the Pennsylvania Turnpike, traversing East and
West, two miles South of the Chapel. The estimated life expectancy of the
lamp is approximately one year. The replacement cost of the lamp is
estimated at about a thousand dollars. Torch maintenance, replacement
lamp, and estimated utility costs is about twenty-five dollars a day. For
those who wish to designate a date to dedicate the lighting of the Torch on a
particular day for a particular remembrance, the following calendar is presented
to indicate the dates and intentions of the donors. More than one
intention may be added to a date, in order to preserve the historical record of
the actual date memorialized. The funds for the procurement of the Lamp
for the Torch were principally raised by the determined dedication and efforts
of Annie Snyder and the North Star Kids, Pittsburgh, and it is primarily through
their efforts the three-year objective to light the Torch was realized. LIGHTING
THE MEMORIAL TORCH OF LIBERTY The cost of
lighting and maintaining the Memorial Torch of Liberty is estimated to be
$25.00/day. For a suggested donation of $25.00, a date may be designated as in
memory of or in honor of the intention of the Donor. More than one
intention may be assigned to each date. Requested dates
and donations may be sent to: Flight 93
