There are so many things needing to be said. That the Chapel has been completed in honor of the First Anniversary of September Eleventh is itself a wondrous accomplishment. I stand in awe every day at what marvels have been created, and I stand in humility knowing that I was not the creator of these accomplishments. My gratitude to all who contributed to the completion of the Memorial Chapel is boundless. Each in our own way have brought what we could in whatever way we could. The accumulation of volunteers over the months, beginning with the first volunteer from Uniontown, fifty miles distant from the Chapel, to the expansion of the band of volunteers over the weekends in each month of June, July, and August was a significant beginning of the emergence of attention to the Chapel and the recognition by others that the Chapel project was worthy of the time and sacrifice and hard work of others.  The insulation of the Chapel by Cambria Glass and Insulation in July was a significant inclusion of corporate and professional supporters and sponsors, catapulting the Chapel project far beyond any goal or objective realistically in the scope of us volunteers The emergence of Maggie Hardy Magerko, her husband Pete and Mr. Joe Hardy cannot be dismissed as a casual event. The spontaneous generosity responsible for the precipitation of so many others responding with generosity and professional and corporate participation is astounding. The participation of 84 Lumber Company, Nemacolin Woodlands Resort, their resources, and the army of cooperative professionals so accurately and so precisely interpreting the spirit of the Memorial Chapel is itself a manifestation of the American Spirit. That so many have so completely committed themselves, in their time and their talents and in their generosity is a proclamation of their esteem for the Heroes of Flight 93 and a sign of their commitment that we are, indeed, one Nation under God. It is our hope that what we do together gives consolation to the Families of Flight 93, that this is our expression of our Honor and esteem for all of them who gave so much, and that simultaneously, we honor the Faith they expressed in their Creator, that without consideration of religious differences, they were of one Faith in the Creator from whom all have received inalienable rights. May the memory of their sacrifice be for us a source of inspiration. May their Families and Friends be strengthened by our love and our prayers. And may the Lord God Creator hold each in the palm of His hands. Words fail to express the immensity of our Love and Faith. May God Bless all of you. God Bless our President. God Bless America! I retired from United Airlines on 2/28/2002 after 32+ years with the company. The events of September 11th took its toll on many people in as many ways. My retirement has led to our opening of a new trophy/award business called Heroes and Winners...honoring the Heroes of the past while recognizing the achievers of today. This is the way I can keep the memory of those innocent victims alive while at the same time, teaching young children the difference between a Hero and a Winner. The Chapel is beautiful...thank you all for the love that you put into the project...it truly shows.

The chapel is a poignant, majestic honor to the heroes aboard flt. 93, and the vision, the dream of honoring those brave souls is Alphonse Mascherino's...and God's. It is surely a testament of grace in its conception and in the amount of people who are touched by its elegance. Thank you, Padre. Hallelujah, Lord.

Here it is a year later, and still there is not a day that goes by that I don't think of my friend, Sandy Bradshaw, who was a flight attendant of UAL 93. She was a wonderful mother and vibrant individual who is greatly missed. Everyone on that flight is a hero and will always be remembered.

It has been my contention from the onset that while we have honored the many deceased, innocent victims, the very meaning of what a true hero is lays on the ground in Pennsylvania. We all know what could have happened had those brave and noble passengers not stepped in that day. They made the ultimate sacrifice, and I for one thank God for those individuals, as I was at the Capitol building that morning. I have wondered daily since 9-11 what mine and my family members fate would have been if not for them. I thank them from the bottom of my heart and will carry their deed with me the rest of my life.

I wanted to tell people about what happened to me. We drove to Shanksville for the 1 year memorial service by way of the Great Swamp National Wildlife Refuge in Basking Ridge NJ. We went to the trail head at the Observation Center parking area. There is a tribute to one of their former employees Richard Guadagno who was a passenger on Flight 93. We went there to honor him in a small way. The day after the ceremony at the crash site on our way back to Boston, we stopped by the Chapel and "ran into" his parents. I was a little shocked by the odd coincidence and told them where we had been the day before and they were visibly touched, as I was, by it all... Thank you for building the Chapel, it helped us just plain folks share the grief and the hope, I know a divine hand helped bring us together in that way with them... we will never forget the Heroes of Flight 93!

I have heard many stories, and no matter how many times I hear them, I still get goosebumps. I pray that you will all have peace, that may your lost loved ones become your guardian angels, and that through the horror of September 11th, we all become stronger together, Americans and Canadians. My Heart goes out to all the families and friends who lost loved ones on that fateful day! I can not contain my emotion when I see and hear them talk on TV. I do not or could not feel what they must have felt that day and every day since, but know that it must be the most trying thing most have gone through. It all makes me realize how precious life is and also how short it can be. If not for the Heroes on Flt 93 we may be looking at a very different Washington DC then we are now, a different America. All 40 aboard, each and every soul is truly a Hero and will never be forgotten. Although 9/11/01 left a scar on America it has also brought America much closer together. The Terrorist have failed and always will on American Soil. May GOD have mercy on us all. GOD bless America.

Father Alphonse: I have a brother who is a fireman and has a certificate in structural collapse. He was on call to go to ground zero. I have three nephews who are in the armed services and my mom was waiting at O'hare to board a flight to Colorado a year ago today. I too, celebrate an anniversary, my second year anniversary as the Assistant to the Provost of University of Saint Mary of the Lake / Mundelein Seminary. Today, we will gather in the Main Chapel to celebrate Mass as a Seminary Communitte and memoralize those victims, heros and families. My brother, will be in his dress blues as a gift bearer, a captain of the US Navy who also works here, a nun and myself will also assist in bringing of the gifts. My boss, Fr. Thomas Baima, a known Catholic Consultant on Ecumenism will continue to teach and bring us, the education and experience of diversity. My the Lord richly Bless You!

God Bless the Heroes of September 11,2001. Our country is united today to pray for all who lost their lives one year ago today. Also, for their loved ones who were left behind to grieve and wonder WHY. We may never understand the level of hate the terrorist feel for our people, but we can feel the love and devotion the people of this country have for each other. Instead of defeating us, the terrorist have brought us closer as a nation, made us more aware of people in need, and made us appreciate the life GOD has given us that we once took for granted. We value each day as a gift, life is precious. We live each moment to the fullest. Thank you GOD, thank you Heros of Flight 93, pray for us. Thank you, Father Al, for your devotion and strength, pray for us. Sharon & Louis Mascherino & Family

I recently visited the site where Flight 93 crashed, I was so moved. My parents are from a small town up the road by the name of Portage. So while we were home in August, I, along with my children and grandchildren left our thoughts and prayers on what little piece of blank space was left on the guard rails and the wooden flag, that adorns the quiet fields of Shanksville. I will retire from our local Ambulance Service next July (2003) and nothing has made me feel so proud of what I do as the days that followed and people that I helped in my 17 years of service, said how honored and grateful they were for having someone like me, that they knew they could rely on, no matter what time of day it was. I have always shrugged off any type of attention that I would get, because I felt it an honor to serve the people of our small community and that they had confidence in us, every time we would walk into their house, or crawled into a mangled car to help them out and give them hope. I am sorry for each and every family that has lost someone they loved. I felt the day that I stood there overlooking the crash site, these were people much more special than I. They were a group of real heroes, that not just a community was grateful for that day, but an entire nation was. We will be always grateful that we had people like those of Flight 93 to serve with "Pride and Patriotism", to protect our country, so no other persons would have to lose their lives that tragic day.... May these victims always have a special place in "Heaven's House of Heroes." Indebted to those who sacrificed for my family and me, they now will be remembered as the "Heroes Among Us." God Bless them all, Jackie M. Engelman 308 East Hanover-Rear New Baden, IL 62265

I was visiting a friend at Indian Lake this weekend and had hoped to stop at the site, not knowing it was closed in preparation for Wednesday. I pulled over to the top of the closed road, stepped out of my car and was immediately overwhelmed by the peacefulness and the beauty of the area. It did not matter that I was not directly at the site, the surrounding countryside provided the feelings of peace I needed.

This is what America is made of. People who entered a plane who looked to us like ordinary people, but were so much more. We should all be so brave...and all be thankful for the message they sent by their actions. All of our actions speak of who we are. Never underestimate tht power you have in the world around you or the power of those around you. Thank you for remembering them.

Having lost two dear friends on that flight, there is no doubt in my mind that they both were among the passengers attempting to over take the terrorists. Not a day has gone by that I have not thought of them and the impact their lives had on others while alive and the impact on others lives after death. Every one on the plane that day was a hero. My prayers go out to all of the families with loved ones on that plane. We are hoping to make a trip out to the crash site soon and I am looking forward to visiting the chapel a fitting tribute to all the heros. God was truly with all of them that morning directing their thoughts and paths making their ways straight. Showing the rest of America UNITED WE STAND ONE NATION UNDER GOD!

While on a hunting trip in Garrett County Maryland last week of October 2001, my hunting buddy Jack and I decided to not hunt on wednesday October 31 st and take a side trip to the crash site of FLIGHT 93. After stopping at numerous places around Shanksville Pa. to get directions to the site we finally found it. It was truly a humbling experience to see all the home made memorials, flowers, momento's, Old Glory and the Pennsylvania state flag waving in the breeze, and the bales of straw that were draped with OLD GLORY in the field next to the flag poles. I am so glad to see the crash site being placed as a historic site that will forever be a memorial to the brave souls who chose to fight back, hats off to the hometown folks in Shanksville and all who are and continue to be involved in it's caretaking and perpetuality. I wish the best of luck to all you people and best wishes to survivors and loved ones of the HEROES of FLIGHT 93. I will never ever forget you.

My prayers are with all the families, especially with the anniversary coming up. The passengers on Flight 93 showed there are still heroes and people who put their lives on the line for their beliefs when they really didn't have too. Thank You for this example and may your ever after journey be a sweet one.

My sister Pat Finnegan, from Syracuse, informed me about this website. I just read the essay, "Thunder on the Mountain"-and I can't stop my eyes from tearing up! God bless you, Father Al, for your inspiration in starting this chapel. I pray for the victims of 9/11 everyday when I go to Mass. May God keep in His care the souls of the heroes of Flight 93, and may Our Lady Immaculate, Patroness of the USA, place each of them under her mantle of blue! We must stand for our country and the good that is in her! We must fight to rid the world of the evil that caused September 11 to happen! St. Michael the Archangel and all military Saints of heaven, come to our defense! We will prevail, with the help of God and the prayers of His Holy Mother and all the Saints!

I've just spent a few minutes looking through your Web site--and I can't stop crying. What a marvelous thing you're doing, to remember both the heroes of Flight 93, and all the innocent victims of 9/11/01. I will pass on your Web address to others, and hopefully get them involved in your wonderful work. I hope that, someday, I might be able to visit the Chapel in person. For now, I will check in occasionally, and see the progress being made. God bless you, and God bless the Heroes of Flight 93!
