I visit this site
regularly and the overwhelming emotions I feel every time never cease to
amaze me. I was so fortunate to be part of the original team that had
the great honor of putting in their own blood, sweat and tears to this
magnificant memorial. I worked along side my children, my friends, and
those I had never met before; all proud Americans, and by the end we
were all family. From such humble beginnings grew this memorial that has
taken on a life of it's own - offering peace and solace to those who
seek it, at the same time serving as a reminder that freedom and safety
often come at a very high price. But honor and glory are eternal. Thank
God for those hero's aboard UAL Flight 93. The time shared working on
this memorial has truly been a gift. Each time I visit this site, I am
tranported to that time. Thanks Padre for having such a beautiful vision
and allowing us to assist in it's realization. God Bless...

Our church in lower
Manhattan is in the process of converting a 145 acre farm in upstate NY
specificly for the youth that fell victim to the attacks, both
physically and emotionally because of losing family and friends and just
being there. Our vision has now grown to include all inner city youth
who otherwise would never experience life other than crime, poverty and
no future. Please feel free to give us any input you may have to offer
to help make this happen. God bless, John Reese

Throughout our
history, from the beginning, civil leaders and Presidents have called
upon the American people to pray, each according to individual faith,
for the welfare and peace of our nation. Declarations and proclamations
from civil leaders exhort religious leaders to lead people of faith to
appeal to the God of their hearts in prayer and supplication that God's
grace may be shed on this Nation under God. In our most recent challenge
of conflict and war, our President has appealed for prayers for the
safety of our troops and for the security of our Nation. In this moment
of the End of Conflict, on this National Day of Prayer, again the
President appeals for prayers for Peace, and for the safety and healing
of our Troops. May our prayers be humble and sincere, may the God of our
fathers extend His mighty hand to uphold this Nation and to sustain all
those who seek Him according to their own faith. God Bless our President
and all civil officials, may God bless our troops. God Bless America!

Day of Liberation,
Day of Liberty, 10:48AM EST: President Bush has declared his firm belief
that it is inherent in human nature to be free of all opression, and
this fundamental right is not granted by any nation or any government
and is itself a God-given right for all peoples of all places for all
times. It is one lesson we have learned from the Heroes of Flight 93:
let no one, no thing ever take away our personal freedom. The Heroes of
Flight 93 have given example for all to honor, admire, and imitate. The
age of Heroes is born anew, bought at a great price. The generation of
liberators at this very moment setting free the People of Iraq
demonstrate the qualities of Heroes, qualities of dedication,
determination, commitment and sacrifice, and are Heroes in their own
right. The People of Iraq yearn with the relentless urge to be free,
among the "ever-restless masses yearning to breathe free." God
Bless America, God Bless our President and all civil leaders, God Bless
the People of Iraq. Father Mascherino

On Sept. 11th I was
stranded in Miami on a business trip. As a result I had to drive back to
Boston. I ended up seeing both the damaged Pentagon and the huge pillar
of smoke rising up from Manhattan on Sept. 12. Even having seen these
things first hand, what affected me the most was what happened on flight
93. I still can't think about it without getting deeply upset. God bless

One of my favorite
prayers to say everyday is "What doth it profit a man if he gain
the whole world and suffer the loss of his own soul, or what exchange
shall a man give for his soul? For the Son of Man shall come in the
glory of His Father with His angels, and then will He render to every
man according to his works". All the man and women of FLT 93 have
received the glory of God's blessings. All the people who have
contributed to this memorial will receive their blessings too. May God
bless All.

We came to honor our
SCCA Heroe's Linda Gronlund and Joe DeLucca. We like to think they were
among the passengers who took the hijackers down, becoming the first
victory in the War Against Terrorism. We value the friendships we had
with both Linda & Joe, and will miss them dearly when we go to
Pocono Raceway for the 2003 race season. We will miss Linda in Control
and helping with F & C. We will always remember Joe for his humor
and " Raymond the Cat" cartoons. They had just found each
other as a couple, and will now spend eternity together. They will
always be our SCCA Angels and America's Heroes. God Bless you Joe and
Linda.

Father Al and
Laborers of Flt 93 Memorial Chapel, the work, energy and sacrifice
you've each given to memoralize the Heroes of Flight 93 is an enduring
gift of love for their families and friends. By the sweat of your brow
you've shown to all of America and the rest of the world that we will
not and cannot forget what 40 great patriots gave so others might live.
Jesus tells us that there "is no greater love than to lay down your
life for another." The love of the Heroes of Flight 93 for us was
awesome beyond words. You are great Americans! May God bless each of you
in all you seek to do! With great respect, sergeant Major Tony Rose,
9-11 Pentagon Survivor and Rescuer.

Look at this: It's
very strange but comforting to know that with God, there is a reason for
everything. The date of the attack: 9/11 - 9 + 1 + 1 = 11 September 11th
is the 254th day of the year: 2 + 5 + 4 = 11 After September 11th there
are 111 days left to the end of the year. 119 is the area code to
Iraq/Iran. 1 + 1 + 9 = 11 Twin Towers - standing side by side, looks
like the number 11 The first plane to hit the towers was Flight 11 State
of New York - The 11 State added to the Union New York City - 11 Letters
Afghanistan - 11 Letters The Pentagon - 11 Letters Ramzi Yousef - 11
Letters (convicted or orchestrating the attack on the WTC in 1993)
Flight 11 - 92 on board - 9 + 2 = 11 Flight 77 - 65 on board - 6 + 5 =

This is just
wonderful!!! We know all too well that what happened that day will never
be forgotten. What a beautiful way to show unconditional love and
compassion for the people who gave their lives to save others. I cry now
when I see a flag that hangs from a pole when the wind is not blowing.
It seems to me as though the flag is looking down and bowing in prayer.
After working in NY at Ground Zero, it is MY way to always remember.
That still flag that doesn't fly through the air is looking down on us
as the people in Heaven are doing now who are our hero's. Our hearts
ache with the pain that I am certain that you feel. I know that God is
with you and he never gives you more than you can bear. Our prayers go
out to you and to the whole United States. Peace.....Love.......and

Year of Destiny,
Year of Grace: For all that has been given, Thanks. For all that will
be, Yes! This season of reflection, this holiday of New Time given is an
opportunity to rejoice in the blessings of life and to rededicate
ourselves to principles of faith, commitment, integrity, courage and
sacrifice. The spirit of the Founding Fathers of the Republic stands
witness to the great achievements that can be accomplished when people
of greatness dedicate themselves to a common cause, a single purpose.
So, too, the Heroes of Flight 93 were committed to a single objective:
to overpower their oppressors. Their refusal to submit to the power of
tyranny resounds in the heart of each person born into freedom. All who
reflect on their awesome commitment and sacrifice must somehow be
consoled and encouraged that heroicism is not confined to the brave
deeds of a chosen few, but is at the very core of human nature. This
much is sure, Forty human beings changed the course of history by their
bravery and by their sacrifice. What they did and what they accomplished
cannot be challenged or questioned. The facts of history bear this out,
and cannot be disputed: They gathered whatever information they could in
the frantic moments of their aircraft being commandeered, they shared
the information, arrived at a consensus, and together rose up to
overwhelm their captors and by their heroic deeds, interfered with,
defeated, and otherwise stopped what could have been a decisive segment
of the assault on our Nation and Humanity. To the Founding Fathers we
continue to pay our debt of reverence and esteem for the great work they
began more than two centuries ago. To the Forty heroes of Fight
93, we owe immense gratitude for what they have done, and for what they
have given. And in their example, we know countless others, many of whom
will be unknown, and their deeds of heroicism will also be unknown, but
we know, we know for certain, among the many who perished September
Eleventh, many were Heroes. We know, because we can see, Heroicism is
part of human nature. The spirit of independence should be our spirit of
independence: no one person, no one thing, nor anything outside of our
own selves must ever be in complete control of our lives. As precious as
life is, oppression in every form must be resisted, combated and
overcome and exposed for what it is: an effrontery to human dignity, and
assault on humanity itself. Each by each, one by one, captors must fall,
tyrants must be suppressed and the human spirit must be set free.
Regardless of how the terms are manipulated to justify it, no power
exercised in the name of justice or in the name of any God that causes
injury or harm or suffering to any one person is unjust and inhuman.
Sometimes in our individual lives tyrants make their presence known.
Sometimes, it is not even a person: drugs, alcohol and other controlling
substances can be tyrannical because they destroy human freedom, human
reason, and human dignity. Other things as well, anger, jealousy,
hatred, lust for power among them, likewise erode the very nature of a
human being. In such an age as this, it is incredible to think that many
do not perceive their own responsibility in responding to what needs to
be done. Whatever the need, there needs to be a response. Perhaps it is
up to each individual to assess the needs, and do whatever each thinks
is best in response. That's what the Forty of Flight 93 did. They
assessed a need and responded. Thank God they did. God Bless our
President. God Bless America. Father Mascherino

Tranquil, placid
snow-covered rural hills and fields of Flight 93 Memorial Site at
Shanksville inspire us with thoughts of Peace and Hope this Christmas
morning. In many ways the gratefulness we feel for these Forty Heroes
comes from realizing unknown and unimaginable devastation to our
nation's Capital was the probable objective of their airborne missile.
Together they accomplished so great a feat of heroism in so short a
time, a few minutes in all, from the rallying cry, "Let's
roll" to the conclusion at 10:06AM. All of history will know they
changed the destiny of the nation and of the world. By our testimony we
acclaim them Heroes. In this tranquil time of peaceful reflection, we
give thanks to the God of our hearts for the wonders that have been
accomplished at Shanksville, and we are grateful for these blessings of
Peace. And still by faith we pray for security in our land, we entrust
our armed forces personnel to the protection of Providence, and pray for
peace in a troubled world. Despite this quiet peace, we know full well
the work begun at Shanksville through the sacrifice of Forty is not
complete in itself. It remains to us to preserve their legacy, to learn
from their example, and to commit ourselves to protecting all they have
given to us at so great a price. Our Nation and our world remains under
threat, and in Shanksville there shines the bright and glorious
testimony to bravery. The blessings of our freedom are preserved and
defended at a great price as well. We are encouraged, we are urged, we
are invited and we are obligated to do all we can do, do everything we
can do. It does not matter so much what it is, but we must do something.
If Forty can have accomplished so much in so short a time, how much more
can be accomplished by hundreds of millions of Americans and countless
millions of others around the world dedicated to and determined to
protect, defend and preserve the freedom and dignity of every human
being. Let peace continue on the earth, may America be strong, may
Americans be worthy of the legacy entrusted to them so that the future
will know we have not taken our responsibilities lightly. By the
commitment and sacrifice of this present generation let those who come
after us know those who perished September Eleventh will never be
forgotten, let the future know the Heroes of Flight 93 will forever be
among those we honor and revere for offering their lives that Freedom
may endure, and let them know we have done everything we could because
we treasure these moments of peace and yearn for the day when peace will
prevail, not momentarily, but universally throughout the world. May the
God of your hearts, the Creator from whom all have received certain
inalienable rights, abide with you and give you Peace. God Bless
America. Father Mascherino

I will always
remember 9/11/01, I was devasted to see the planes go into the WTC
tower! I work for United Airlines reservations and I came to work and
everyone was crying, praying and hugging each other. We watched the tv
as the towers fell, other planes had crashed into the Pentagon and Flt
93............... I had to put my professional business hat on and it
was the most difficult thing to do. My first call came in on my phone
line to assist a passenger and I asked them how could I help them? A
nice woman came on the line and shared a nice story about her son whom
she was so proud of was on one our United flights. She told a lovely
story of her son and as she was telling me her story, my boss was
writing flight numbers on the message board that planes were flown into
the WTC (UA & AA)and now into the Pentagon and Flt 93 in
Pennyslvania have all crashed. As the woman proceded to tell her story
....(I was gagging with all the info we were getting.) I stopped the
coversation and asked the woman "what flight # are you checking
on" she said Flight 93. I asked the women if I could put her on
hold, I was so choked about the flight number she had just given me I
didn't have the heart to tell her to call our crisis number. I came back
on the line and said to her "at this time I would like you to call
this number". I knew the entire time I was talking to this person
they did not know what was going on in the country. There was
interuption from other family members asking questions ...who are you
talking to? The next comment from the woman was I don't want to be late
to pick up my son at the airport. Again the family must have turned on
the tv, because they were like screaming in the background. Someone came
to the woman and said don't let them give you a phone number. Well, I
had to give that phone number to this very proud mother of a young man
whom she never gave me his name.....this woman was sobbing and saying to
me "no no not my son, not my son and the phone dropped and I had to
disconnect the line at this time. The family was hysterical and
screaming and yelling what happened!!! I knew what happened Flight 93
had crashed, and her son was not coming home. At the moment I had to
tell this woman to call the crisis number I too hurt so bad for her and
her family. I will go to my grave hearing this woman go from a happy
loving MOM to a heart broken woman who lost her son on Flight 93. The
next day when the list of names came out I went to Flight 93 and looked
at the list and I rubbed my hand across the names and said "I don't
know who you are but your mother was very proud of you and she loved you
dearly".

The Heroes of Flight
93 preserved for us the rights, benefits and blessings of living in a
free society. Among the greatest priviledges of Americans is the right
to vote. The Heroes of Flight 93 demonstrated by their final commitment
that we must do something. Whatever it is, in whatever way, we must do
something. It is never acceptable to do nothing, or to hang back and let
others do it all. And so it is unseemly that any of us who continue to
benefit from their heroic sacrifice should be so removed from
recognizing our responsibility to preserve the legacy of Heroes that we
fail in this least of what is requested, REQUIRED! of patriots and
citizens: VOTE! Religion and faith are constantly under attack from many
sources. We remain one nation under God. As President Bush said, one of
our greatest freedoms is to worship the God of our hearts. Many
candidates for public office have demonstrated lives of commitment to
principles of faith. Not necessarily restricted to religious
affiliation, but also through defense of freedom, demonstrating faith in
America, faith in Americans, faith in the bright future of a mighty
nation dedicated to preserving freedom for everyone throughout the
world. With so many qualified, worthy, dedicated public servants seeking
election and reelection, and with so many others coming forward to offer
their services in support of government of the people, by the people and
for the people, surely there are candidates worthy of our consideration,
our support and our faith. Here in Pennsylvania, as elsewhere,
candidates for the Governor's Office and other positions have declared
where they stand on the issues confronting us, and have defined their
rationale for the positions they have taken. Among candidates available
for selection on election day, one will emerge dominant in stature,
dignity, and singleness of purpose. One candidate will speak to your
heart. Look to their words of nobility, look to the dedicatin to a
greater vision, look to the expression of confident trust in America and
in the American People. Look to their sincerity of heart, to their
determination to create a better society, a better world. To cast one
vote for one outstanding candidate is not the greatest thing we can do.
It is the least we can do. On Election Day, it is the only thing we can
do. We have to do something, and we have to do something now. Are you
ready? LET'S ROLL!

Hello Father
Al...The finished Chapel looks great. My wife Rosemary and I are looking
forward to seeing it soon. We met you September 6th, you took the time
to give us the grand tour as several workers worked frantically to
finish the project. Our prayers to you for the vision and perserverance
to complete this beautiful memorial chapel for those heroes who will
forever be remembered for preserving America's freedom. We can not wait

I returned to the
Chapel this past weekend with my family to see what I can only explain
as a miracle. When I last saw the Chapel, in early September, it was
still in it's early stages. Having worked on the Chapel several weekends
and knowing the hard work we put into it's completion, I can only deduce
that the workers from the 84 lumber team are miracle workers! So many
members of the community were included in this calling. Spectacular.
Seeing Rev. Al's vision brought to fruition (and having had the honor to
participate in that process with so many other wonderful people) was
truly the experience of a lifetime. This is truly what it is all
about...

September 11, 2001 An attack against every past, current and future
citizen of the United States of America. An attack against our country,
our culture, our psyche. We are under attack in an undeclared war. How
does a pudgy, arthritic fifty-four year old grandfather of three respond
to such an invasion? The Pentagon breached. New York City devastated.
Thousands killed. And then there were the souls on UAL Flight 93. Our
first counter attack. Democracy in (re)action. And now there is the UAL
Flt 93 Memorial Chapel. My family and I stumble upon this sanctuary by
chance (?) on our way to pay our respects to our latest American heroes,
now forever part of Shanksville, PA, a most wonderful little town. If I
didn’t already have a hometown, I would choose this one. We met Father
Al and he introduced us to his little project: “Bring a hammer?”.
And, as they say, the rest is history. I am told that the Chapel will be
a place of peace. A spiritual refuge. A place for prayer and reflection.
A place to pay one’s respect to all of our people affected by 9/11/01.
Those who say that are wrong, of course. The Chapel has already
accomplished those noble goals, and more. Much more. Allow me to quote
from Bruce Springsteen’s newest album: “The Rising”, the CD being
a gift to me from a loving sister: “May your strength give us strength
May our faith give us faith May your hope give us hope May your love
give us love May your love give us love” Thank you, Padre. Don Graham

I spent the better part of last weekend, July 13th, working side by
side some very incredible people who have made it their mission to be
part of something so much greater than themselves. The Flight 93
Memorial Chapel. My two teenager sons joined me in this venture. They
proudly raised the flag as we recited the Pledge of Allegence before
beginning our work on the Chapel. And I don't think I have ever seen
either of them work so hard, and be so dedicated to completing what ever
task they had chosen to tackle for the day. The pride they took in their
work was very inspiring. It was quite an experience for us to share as a
family. How amazing to be part of something so incredible, to be part of
history in the making and to pay homage to those who may very well have
averted an even greater tragedy. Thank you Father Al for giving us the
opportunity to participate in your vision, and thank you Hero's of
Flight 93.

I just want to tell you that what you are doing is such an amazing
thing. Not many people would even attempt to try. Thank God for everyone
of those people. Without them, the plane may have gotton farther and hit
a populated area, causing even more innocent lives to be lost. They are
teh true heros. We should allbe thankful and pray for everyone that was
lost. Without them and the tragic events of last September we still
would not have realized how precious a thing freedom is, and how our
country is something we should be thankful for. We tend to take too many
things for granted and freedom is definitely something we shouldn't. May

I remember being in Viet Nam and experiencing death and destruction.
I remember feeling helpless then, almost without hope. On September 11,
I had the same feelings: helpless, almost without hope. Wondering what
kind of sick world we are living in. Worrying about our children and
grandchildren. I survived Viet Nam and we will survive after September
11. Hope comes from within, and from God, and from those who support us.
There is something I am feeling now similar to my feelings when I
survived Viet Nam. That we have been given another chance.

Thoughts
There are certain events in our experience that
impact us in various ways. The Heroes of Flight 93 immediately,
completely and effectively altered the destiny of the world in the few
moments they had available to digest the conditions of the situation in
which they found themselves, to commit themselves to definitive action
and to carry it though even though they were fully aware of the probable
consequences that they would loose their lives in the process. That what
they had believed in their hearts individually and that they were able
to derive from their faith collectively the courage to accomplish the
unthinkable is a profound testimony to the action of Faith and moral
certitude affecting the lives of individuals. The Founding Fathers of
this Nation proclaimed Faith in a Creator, a Supreme Being, was the
foundation from which has sprung the principles upon which our
Democratic Republic has been established and developed. Principles of
Faith guided the Founding Fathers, principles of faith have guided the
great Patriots of our Nation through generations of Peace and Conflict
and have made possible the tremendous effort required to sacrifice one's
own life and welfare for the good of others. It is significant that some
of the final messages received from the Heroes of Flight 93 include a
recitation of the Twenty Third Psalm and the Lord's Prayer. It is clear,
Faith in the Creator, a Supreme Being was a significant factor in
manifesting the heroic accomplishments of the Passengers and Crew of
Flight 93. What is supremely evident since their first manifestation of
documented Heroics on September Eleventh is that because of their
example, many Americans now are no longer reluctant to express that they
are prepared to act in a similar way if ever the need arises. By their
sacrifice, the Heroes of Flight 93 have made it possible for us who
remain behind to preserve their legacy, honor their memory and
rededicate ourselves to the principles for which these Heroes have died.
We will never know the full story of all the Heroes, so many, who in the
final moments of their own life, reached out to assist others on that
September Day. We know this: the Spirit of heroes has not passed from
the Earth. It abides in the hearts and souls of each and everyone who
values human freedom and dignity. Regardless of the threat or the
danger, regardless of the consequences to personal safety, there will
always be women and men who rise up to answer those threats and respond
in whatever way necessary to accomplish what they know in their hearts
can never be taken from the face of the Earth. UAL Flight 93 Memorial
Chapel is a spiritual memorial to the Memory of the Heroes of UAL Flight
93 and to all those who perished on September Eleventh. And it is a
spiritual memorial to all those who survived, and to all those who
served. It is a spiritual memorial for us as well, insofar as the spirit
of Faith endures and the spirit of America prevails. In a dark moment on
a bright September morning, the Heroes of UAL Flight 93 caused a new Sun
to rise on our horizon. In that dark hour they rose triumphant, with the
full stature of the dignity of Man to show any and all who care to see:
This is the measure of Man's Freedom. This is the measure of Freedom's
price. We are willing and ready to give to the fullest measure. May we
who remain behind stand as tall. God Bless Flight 93. God Bless America.

CommentsI have been to the area several times now. It is a sad place but also it is a place to remember our heros. They gave their lives to save others!! How scared they must have been when confronted with the hijackers, yet, they were brave to fight them off as best as they could. We are so grateful to those who stopped the plane from going to its target! God Bless them and their families and friends! My family goes to hear a band'" vs.the.earth.com" from Baltimore, Md.(originally from Altoona, Pa) and after Sept. 11th, they wrote a very beautiful song in memory of those we lost that day. Everyone was touched that day in some way!!

CommentsIn August of 2003, our Senator Jane Orie requested that I bring my performance troup, the North Star Kids, to the FLIGHT 93 MEMORIAL CHAPEL to perform in a benefit concert on the second anniversary. The Senator wanted my children to represent the children of Pennsylvania. I said YES I was honored. Since that day my life has changed, as did the lives of the children who arrived with me. On that day, besides the obvious disbelief of the bad that we found there, in Shanksville, was the overwhelming amount of good that we found in Shanksville. It was very clear that high among the countless acts of selflessness, one man truly stood tall in the crowd, Reverend Alphonse T. Mascherino. The achievements that this one solitary man accomplished was almost inconceivable. Truly God was at his side. I wanted to be a part of that team. I decided to get involved. Now I am proud to stand with the Revrend, and my North Star Kids as we try to secure the funds to light the MEMORIAL TORCH OF LIBERTY!

CommentsAfter more than two centruries of solid American democracy founded upon principles derived from even more ancient principles of civilization, it is incredible that religion and the free exercise thereof is emerging as a new battle cry at Christmas time. Each year, the assault against religious freedom seems to become more hysterical, very much like the tenor of the times that drove the colonizing settlers of this mighty nation from their homelands to escape religious persecution.
Turmoil, tummult, violence and persecution rages around the world, in the name of God and in the name of religion. Eliminating religion or oppressing its free exercise will not diminish the violence waged in religion's name.
Peace. Love. Joy. Blessings. Fear not. Great tidings of great joy.
Humanity is incapable of creating these deeply spiritual graces. Treaties among nations accomplish them only in a limited way, and for a limited time. Faith opens the horizons of humanity's greatest gift: to gaze into infinity, and to experience it in a limited way on this frail earth, and by faith, hope to experience it forever.
Without such a vision and message, this world is diminished.
Merry Christmas.
Father Mascherino

CommentsThere are moments in our lives that mark the passing of time and events that affect and transform us according to the attention we are able to bear on the occasion. October 8th is the Anniversary of the Birthday of Honor Elizabeth Wainio and will be observed at Memorial Chapel on Friday, at 3:00PM Memorial Service. Visitors to the Chapel on Thursday, October 7th and Friday, October 8th will be given a yellow rose as a token remembrance.
We honor them as Heroes, these Special Forty of Flight 93, and their families and friends remember them with love, and in their generosity, are willing to share their most treasured memories, and we are grateful.
Honor "Beth" was full of the vitality of a young woman on the verge of conquering her world. All who knew her were touched by her humble, joyful, fullness of life.
She, together with the other Heroes of Flight 93, leave a legacy for us all to treasure, and in remembering them, we honor them.
God's Peace be with her family and friends.
God Bless America.

It should be remembered that freedom was first defended by ordinary citizens here at Shanksville, PA. We must not let their sacrifice be in vain. CommentsI still feel the pain so strong on this day, 3 years after. In Aug. 2001 my family (6 of us) were on flight 93, coming home from a week visiting family in NJ. A warm & friendly face came by and said to me, I remember you a week ago. She told all of the crew how in all the years of flying, she had never seen a person twice. She bought me a drink and then bought one for my husband as well. I pray she was not on that flight 9/11, but I can't quite remember her face, to be sure. All I can do is pray for all of the heros of flight 93. It haunts me and I will never forget you.

As I am watching the 3rd anniversary ceremonies take place I am once again overcome by a feeling of grief for the family and friends of all of those lost on September 11, 2001. I am proud to be an American. I am proud to live in America. I am proud of our freedom. I am grateful for those who have lost there lives fighting for that freedom. I am grateful for those that continue to fight for that freedom.
I would like to thank all the family of all those Heroes on flt 93 for they instilled inside these Heroes the courage it took to overcome fear so that they may take the plane back from the terrorists. If it had not been for those heroes on that plane that day that plane would have hit a target taking many more Mothers, Fathers, Sons,
Daughters, Husbands, Wives, Brothers and Sisters, possibly my own. For That,
I will NEVER forget these 40 Heroes. May God bless you and keep you strong. God Bless America.

CommentsSigned Chapel Guest book August of 2002. Chapel had only the bell and the inside was all but bare, but for that bell. Remember a friend wrote on that bare wall in rememberance of a friend, he wrote how much he was missed, this friend came from California to write this message. I only hope this message was preserved, it touch my heart to know that friends will go to any lengths for a loved one. Family is family, blood or not! The Pastor told me to ring the bell three times in rememberance of those on Flight 93. Never experienced anything like it, silence and calm, hard to explain.

CommentsWe are so moved by this website and the development of the Chapel. We feel we owe so much to the people who died on flight 93. You see our daughter was in the Capital that morning. She was serving as a Congressional Page and Sept. 11 was her first day in the cloakroom in the House of Representatives. We feel that her life and the lives of the other 60 pages was spared by the bravery of these angelic heroes.
We are forever in the debt of these people and their families. This year, we plan to attend the memorial service and pay our deepest respects.
Sincerely,

CommentsI visited the crash site and chapel yesterday while traveling through Pennsylvania. I was worried about the amount of time it would take away from our traveling schedule, yet when I arrived, I was ashamed that I was concerned about a few hours... when the brave souls on Flight 93 gave all the time they had left... to us. God bless them.

CommentsI have family that lives in Somerset. This day was really real to them. Also, in July of 2002 I attended a family reunion (Jake Knupp reunion) in the park across the street from where the 9 miners were buried. The reunion was held at the same time the miners were rescued. We also visited the site of the Flt 93 tragedy.

CommentsMy 15 year old daughter came home from school that day and was aware of some of what had happened. She became glued to the TV set just watching everything over and over. Finally she turned to me and said, Mom, I can say to my children that I was alive when this happened and saw these terrible things, I'm a witness to this horrible history. She said, I'll never forget this dreadful day and began to sob, why do people have to hate so much--I wish I knew darling, I wish I knew. We will never forget!!!!!!! "GOD" Bless all the heros and their familes. We remember you all in our prayers daily.

CommentsMy niece, Deora Bodley, was a victim on United Airlines Flight 93. I have not been to the chapel to see it firsthand, but my parents, Frank & Patrica Guerra have. I am planning on attending the third anniversary in September. My family was fortunate to have Deora spend three weeks with us the summer of 2001 at our home in Grand Rapids, Michigan. My husband and two daughters, as well as myself, are blessed with many memories of a wonderful young woman. My youngest daughter, Jordan and I attended the one year anniversary. We met a number of the victims families at that time. It gave me some sense of peace that Deora was among an extraordinary group of people when she died by meeting their relatives. I think of Deora daily and I know I will see her again someday. I want to thank all those who gave their time, money and effort to build such a beautiful chapel in memory of those who died that day. I am looking forward to visiting the chapel for myself. "Some people ask who, what, where, why, how. I ask Peace" ... Deora Bodley. I miss you Deora. Love always ... Aunt Chris.

CommentsTwo years ago, March 11, 2002, Flight 93 Memorial Chapel was officially opened to the public. In the midst of debris, visitors to the area coming to honor the Heroes of Flight 93 at Shanksville also stopped by the tiny little country church, and many stopped again and again to keep tabs on the changes that were taking place day by day. Since that beginning, and for the next few months, the final form of the Chapel could hardly be envisioned from the chaos that prevailed. And from the beginning, it was evident, that even in a place already sacred to the memory of the Heroes of Flight 93, people paused to offer a moment of prayer and reflection.
Many have come forward to offer their dedicated assistance and service to the Chapel and to the many thousands of visitors who have visited since the Chapel was first opened. The unfailing dedication of the Volunteer Auxiliary is a constant inspiration to the many strangers who come among us, and for a moment touch our lives, and depart with their own impressions and memories.
This Second Anniversary Observance has given us time to pause and to reflect on what we honor here. The Chapel is an expression of reverence and homage to God, and is a memorial expression of the honor we render to the Heroes of Flight 93 and to all the innocents who perished that September Day. On this day of Observance, we honor also those who have offered, by their own participation by work and service, and all those who offer prayers and good wishes in support of this humble Chapel and its mission to given honor and glory to God and to Heroes. And most especially, to reflect with wonder and amazement at the incredible achievement of the final ten days leading to the First Anniversary, September 11, 2002.
What has been done has not been accomplished for ourselves, but so that others will know the events of September Eleventh have touched our hearts and our lives, and the Memorial Chapel is our expression of gratitude to God and to Heroes, and perhaps, in some way, will be inspired to do whatever they can do, each in their own way, to remember and never forget.
Our debt is great, and our obligation is just as great: as so many have given their lives that we may continue to live in freedom, so we must do everything possible to preserve, protect and defend that which has been won for us at so great a price.
God Bless our President, all pulic officials and our Troops.
God Bless America!
Father A. T. Mascherino

CommentsGreetings Padre and visitors to this beautiful, holy place. I am well after a 6-week bout with the infamous flu. Now deep snow, frigid temps and basic fear of the blustery-ness are keeping me home. I miss seeing the chapel and thinking my thoughts in that special little sanctuary. I miss the warm sun, the cute beagle, other visitors and summer. I wanted you to know I was thinking of it all. Love, Jeannie
