CHILDREN'S PEACE GARDEN DEDICATION - FREEDOM TREE PLANTING
The Garden Club Federation of Pennsylvania will hold a
Freedom Tree Planting
on Friday, October 11, 2002, at 4 p.m. at the UAL Flt
93 Memorial Chapel,
three miles from the Impact Site of Flight 93, in an area which has been
designated as the Children's Peace Garden. The Freedom Trees
Project was
initiated by National Garden Club, Inc., CAR, and Shell Oil Company.
Cadette Girl Scout Troop 330 from Shanksville will be conducting the
dedication which will include the planting of trees and the proposed
plan
for the Children's Peace Garden which is being designed by Tao
Landscape.
National President, Lois Dupre' Shuster, and GCFP President, Marilyn
Whitmore, will attend the ceremonies.
Decorated stones from Maryland, Virginia, and New Jersey brought to the
Menmorial Chapel by children and their parents pay tribute to the Heroes
of
Flight 93 and will be on display at the Chapel until plans are finaized
for
their eventual placement in the Garden. Others visiting the Chapel
for the
dedication ceremony, or those visiting the Chapel at any time may bring
stones from their homeplace with messages, symbols and pictures for
placement in the Garden. Stone decorations made with paint are
expected to
endure the elements better than felt tip markers.
The Dedication and Tree Planting Ceremony will be observed with
patriotic
songs and hymns sung by the gathering. Father Mascherino, Director
of the
Chapel, will bless the Earth and the Garden with a prayer.
